Park and Benches
I'm meeting with the park supervisor on Friday to look at the grass area and see if the city can take a little better care of it before it all turns to weeds.
After talking to the bench guy he said that the city has been putting handrails in the middle of the benches ,to keep people from sleeping on them, like at night. If we do this it will raise the cost to $3542.65 for the five benches. This is $42.65 over the amount allocated for this project. I need the board to vote on the additional money before I can order the benches. So please reply to Linda, or we can vote at next weeks meeting. There is no money left to make plaques or signs saying that these benches were purchased by the N.A. so we would need to allocate money for that too. I would guess about $100.

Foothill 5K Walk/Run
Paul Grosvenor reported the Foothills 5K Walk/Run donation, of $735.29 from the neighborhood association, was given to the Mountainside YMCA Scholarship Fund. The GHSCGNA wishes to thank all who participated , volunteered for, and/or sponsored this event. Paul says that next years entry fees will increase by $5.00 and that due to an extensive remodeling of that facility, the YMCA will probably not be available as the site for registration, restrooms and presentation of awards. The Board will work on a solution to this problem. See the Pictures

| New Car Wash? A new car wash went in a few months back. It is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Isn't that great, when you think your car needs a wash you can pop down there at 3:45 AM drop your $8 in and have at it. There is more than enough light so you will feel safe and the speaker will tell you how to get it to work. See the pictures |

What’s up with our Park?
When I moved into this neighborhood seven years ago I noticed a sign on the open space behind my house which read “proposed park site.” I thought this was great until I found out that development of a park had been proposed for the past 35 years. Fortunately, with a lot of work by neighbors and the neighborhood association, we have a pretty nice park and playgrounds.
The additional great news is that the neighborhood association will be adding four or five park benches around the grassy area and along the path between Comanche and Candelaria. The Neighborhood Association is paying for the benches and Councilor Craig Loy has identified city money to get the benches installed.
Thanks to all our neighbors for keeping the Linear Park clean and cleaning up after their dogs. A special thanks to Karen and Bill Beck for keeping the Southern most doggie bag containers filled.

Pedestrian Awareness in Our Neighborhood
The GHSCG Neighborhood is fortunate to have a nearly continuous network of set-back sidewalks that are convenient for walkers, strollers, and kids on bicycles alike. This significantly raises the standard of living in this neighborhood for our many neighbors who use them. However, the existence of these sidewalks alone isn’t enough. Homeowners need to ensure that sidewalks are kept clear of vehicles, vegetation, debris, and snow, and are properly maintained, to keep our neighborhood pedestrian friendly. Additionally, drivers need to remember to yield to pedestrians at both marked crosswalks and unmarked crosswalks (at intersections), must exercise due care in avoiding collision with pedestrians on all streets, and must practice extra precaution in the presence of children, confused, or incapacitated persons. These aren’t just good ideas, they are the law (Albuquerque Ordinances 8-5-1-1, 6-5-5-18, 8-2-7-3, and 8-2-7-12). Please do your part to keep our neighborhood pedestrian friendly by adhering to these guidelines and the ordinances that codify them.

Car Wash Stories
Light Pollution There is a light in the automatic car wash bay that shines directly into 2 rooms of our house. One of those rooms is our great room. We are forced to keep the blinds closed because of the glare from this light. The other shines directly into our guest room. Over the holidays, we had guests staying in that room. We had to rig up some temporary window covering because the light shining into that room prevented our gests from sleeping. We have had to buy hotel-grade room darkening curtains to fix this problem, whereas previously mini-blinds sufficed. We have registered a complaint with the city through 311, and have not received a response.
Noise We were quietly listening to music, reading, and doing homework when the windows of the house rattled and we were hearing what sounded like a sustained sonic boom. It was a car wash patron with his boom box blaring. We went out to our backyard, and he did turn it down. However, when he moved over to the vacuum cleaners, the noise resumed, with the same effect on our house. This same person has done the same thing more than once. By the time authorities are called, the offender has left.
Loitering Many times we have observed people just "waiting" around the car wash. They are not washing their cars. In fact, once a motorcyclist was observed, waiting, sitting on the wall. What are they doing there? We have observed and heard teen-agers partying on the property. Again, once the police are called, the offenders are long gone. Another time we woke up to see a car parked in the bay. And although there was motion on the inside of the car, there was no-one washing it. The car sat there for over an hour with no car wash activity. Upon closer investigation, we observed a person sleeping in the back seat and it definitely appeared that he had been there for some time. Although we called the police and reported the incident, he drove off before they arrived. It is a little unnerving to have people lingering with no apparent purpose 20 feet from our back wall.

Casa Grande Linear Park
Our park is not finished. It has come a long way since it was first planned in the 1970's and finally construction started with a bridge over the drainage canal in April of 2003. We still had a few things on our list and we are going to ask the City Parks for the rest of them. Most of the neighborhood has enjoyed the improvements and our Park is a great asset to the neighborhood.

City Activities
The City worked on the drainage after the huge rains this summer. They have cleaned out the catch basins where so much dirt runs off and collects. The City also cleared away the dirt that accumulated at Casa Bonita and Comanche at the Open Space entrances. They cleared out the drainage ditch that flows over to the paved drainage behind Pheasant Hill. If you need any help from the City on anything, call 311. They are very helpful and friendly. Remember, if you do not call, they will not know. Don't complain. Pick up the phone!

City to propose Multi-use Zoning
The City of Albuquerque is proposing new zoning called Multi-Use zones termed MU-1/Mu-2 zones. These zones will make it easier for builders/developers to place residential/commercial sites without getting special zoning exceptions.
